Inspiring Impact NI has begun a process of engagement with the Public Sector Group to explore how public funders might adopt an impact practice cycle. We are currently working with a public sector engagement sub-group identified with support from DSD’s Voluntary & Community Unit.
The first stage of this process has been to explore a set of Funders’ Principles & Drivers of good impact practice developed with independent trust and foundations in mind to see whether these can be adapted for statutory funders to the sector. We then looked at some current practice across government departments and agencies to get a sense of some of the practical challenges to applying an impact practice approach within the public sector.
The next stage is to undertake a more detailed scoping of the practical challenges and barriers to applying impact practice. This will run alongside a process of identifying and supporting a number of pilot/demonstration projects that will support key public funders on planning for impact.
