Inspiring Impact is a UK wide initiative that aims to change the way voluntary, community and social enterprise (VCSE) organisations and their funders think and go about demonstrating the impact of their work and investments.
The UK Inspiring Impact initiative is a collaboration between seven membership organisations representative of VCSE organisations, independent trusts and foundations, and evaluation and measurement practitioners. It is led by New Philanthropy Capital (NPC).
The programme emerged as a response to a growing demand for self-evaluation and a proliferation of measurement tools that were creating a pretty crowded and confusing landscape.
The Building Change Trust saw the opportunity to lead a parallel initiative in Northern Ireland and joined the UK board back in 2012. They subsequently commissioned Community Evaluation NI to support the development and delivery of the Inspiring Impact NI Programme.
Phase 1 of the Programme ran for two years from December 2013 to December 2015. The Trust committed £500,000, matched by a further £188,000 from the Department for Social Development (DSD) to the initial two year programme of work, which supported VCSE organisations and their funders to better understand and embrace impact practice. Reports on phase 1 available here.
Phase 2 of the Programme commenced in January 2016 and will run for a further two years thanks to continued funding of £250,000 from the Building Change Trust and DSD. This Phase will build on the foundations already laid in Phase 1 and will focus on four priority areas:
1. Developing impact practice across the VCSE sectors and funders
2. Developing and improving Inspiring Impact supportive resources
3. Exchanging and disseminating knowledge and learning from the programme
4. Influencing policy at a strategic level.
